Thĩinĩ wa maitho ma rĩu,
nyoni ya Nyagathanga yĩrĩa,

Gĩkũyũ akĩinũka buu,

Ancient Mukurwe, tree of Ngai,
standing as a pillar of life,
here is where peace first rested,
and the hearts of people gathered as one.
Before the eyes of time,
the bird Nyagathanga sings,
carrying the story of the beginning,
a song of coming into being.
Gikuyu approaches in quiet wonder,
with no haste upon his path,
beholding the tree of life,
and hearing the voice of the heavens.
Nyagathanga rises and sings,
where the land was first bestowed,
and Ngai sent down peace,
to dwell among the people.
The Mukurwe shall never fade,
it stands through ages and ages,
and the bird shall never cease,
retelling the story of the beginning.
